Special toy drive initiative supporting children affected by Texas floods, featuring the Boots, Badges & Toys event in Leander to bring joy to families recovering from disaster.

Boots, Badges & Toys: Bringing Hope After the Floods

In response to the devastating Texas floods that impacted numerous families in the Leander area, GTC United launched this special toy drive initiative. The Boots, Badges & Toys event brings together law enforcement, first responders, and community volunteers to ensure children affected by the floods can still experience joy despite their families' losses.

Why This Matters

Many families lost everything in the floods - homes, possessions, and precious memories. For children, losing their toys and comfort items adds another layer of trauma to an already difficult situation. This toy drive aims to:

  • Replace beloved toys and books lost in the flooding
  • Provide new items to bring smiles to children's faces
  • Show community support during recovery
  • Help restore a sense of normalcy for affected families

The Boots, Badges & Toys Event

This special event brings together:

  • Law Enforcement Officers - Local police and sheriff's departments
  • Firefighters & EMS - First responders who helped during the floods
  • Military Personnel - Active duty and veterans supporting the community
  • Community Volunteers - Neighbors helping neighbors rebuild

Children get to meet their heroes while receiving new toys, creating positive memories to help overcome the trauma of the disaster.

Event Partners

This initiative was made possible through the generous support of our partners:

  • Love Mercy International - Helped with everything from setup, shopping for toys, toy and donation pickup, handing out to families, working with families directly etc
  • A Stitch of Kindness - Donated over 150 handmade plushies. Bringing handmade comfort to children and families - one stitch of kindness at a time.
  • The Blessing Project - Donated 200 Blessing Bags with hygiene essentials, snacks and spiritual pamphlets of healing and comfort

Beyond Toys: Comprehensive Support

While toys bring immediate joy, the initiative also connects families with:

  • Information about disaster relief resources
  • School supply replacement programs
  • Counseling and support services
  • Home rebuilding assistance programs

How You Can Help

The flood recovery process is ongoing, and these families need continued support:

  • Donate New Toys: Age-appropriate toys for children 0-17
  • School Supplies: Many children lost backpacks and school materials
  • Gift Cards: Allow families to purchase specific needed items
  • Volunteer: Help with sorting, distribution, and event support
  • Spread the Word: Share information about available resources

Making a Difference

"After losing our home in the floods, my children were devastated. The Boots, Badges & Toys event not only replaced their lost toys but gave them a chance to meet the firefighters who helped rescue us. Seeing my kids smile again means everything."
